We try to let the chickens free-range a bit every day (we can't let them be free while we are at work and not here to keep an eye on them. Why? Because of all the hawks we have. I woke up to a pile of dove feathers in my front yard Friday morning. It's not the first time. Our hawks are good.)
The girls were out yesterday morning and enjoying every minute of it. Our girls are red sex links, in case you were wondering ... Ours are a cross of Rhode Island Reds and Rhode Island Whites
Ahhh, dog-yard sand. They were in heaven. They like nothing better than a sand bath.
This is silly chicken. She is a hen on a mission.
There are worms to be had! Breakfast!
Of course, hens in the back-yard and dog-yard begs the question ... Where are the dogs? Well, the Westies are banished to the garage during chicken play time. Why? Because nothing is tastier to a Westie than fresh chicken. Tucker's actually managed to grab hold of a chicken leg (still attached to the chicken) once. She didn't lay for 3 days, she was so traumatized!
Miss Madison LOVES it when the chickens play in the yard. She thinks there is nothing better to roll in than fresh chicken poop. She is banished to the garage and yard until I give her a bath in a few minutes.
Happy Sunday.
Off to wash chicken poop puppies ...
